Reminiscing The Times When “We Were So Young”: The Corrs

Posted by:CorrsOnline Posted on:Sep 16,2016

The song ‘So young’ was released by the Irish siblings in 1998 and it went on to enter the top ten singles chart in the United Kingdom. The song was written by Sharon Corr, one of the siblings, and it was inspired by their parents whom they all believed to be forever young. Fast forward 18 years later, the Corrs themselves are not that young but they recently decided to get back into the music limelight earlier this year after a ten year absence.

They have released a new album White light, and have already gone through a world tour. On being asked as to whether they will continue performing into their old age, the siblings jokingly stated that they will substitute their tour bus with an ambulance and carry defibrillators with them when that time comes; a witty statement that indicates their intentions to last in the music limelight for a long time to come. They also gain some form of inspiration from the Rolling Stones which is led by 72 year old Mick Jagger and who are currently doing tours around the world.

The Corrs in their earlier days

The Corr siblings made up of Andrea, Sharon, Caroline and Jim started out the music band back in 1991.Sharon however says that her musical journey started way earlier than that, when she was 6 years old and was learning to play the violin. They did not take a lot of time for fans to start loving their music, which featured a combination of pop music and traditional Irish music. Their unique blend of music took them from performing in classroom settings to gracing concert halls around the world. No one would have imagined a small band from Dundalk, Ireland would be able to take on the entire world by storm.

They got their big break in 1994 when they were invited by the American Ambassador to Ireland to perform at the World cup that was being held in Boston. They later on got to perform at the Olympics and were able to join in on Celine Dion’s tour in 1996. All these events allowed them to get recognized internationally and when they finally released their first album, its popularity overtook their expectations later on became one of the most successful debuts by an Irish band. The years that followed involved more successful album releases and wider popularity all over the world.

The comeback

The Corrs broke up in 2006 with each member of the band deciding to take time off from music to adjust into their family lives. Some of the band members like Andrea and Sharon launched their solo careers but were not so much engrossed in becoming full time musicians. However earlier in 2016, the band decided to make a comeback at London’s Hyde Park with their 6th album, White Light. In as much the Corrs are not as young as they were before, the beauty and well written lyrics in some of their songs from the White Light album shows how immensely talented this band really is and this line from their hit single So Young can only serve to explain it better.
“…And when tomorrow comes, we can do it all again”

It also is a fact that in beginning this band was not very well received but they built up their positive reputation in a short span afterwards. Pop Music has always been my weakness in a way that it gets into my soul from beginning till the end.
